Round milling work

Mobile round milling is another application of our milling machines.

We use our mobile round milling machines to precisely machine flange areas of approx. Ø 1.5 m up to more than Ø 11 m. Depending on the machining diameter you require, we choose the best fit from our selection of round milling machines.

You can rely on us to machine horizontal, vertical or any other angle surfaces – even overhead. To do this, we set up the mobile round milling machine underneath the area to be machined. Our machines weigh from 1.5 t to 25 t, and in certain cases we have to weld additional supports onto the component to hold them. It is sometimes possible to clamp our machine directly onto the component using set or clamping screws.

It takes a minimum of preparation for us to machine flange boreholes or flanges from the underside. Your requirements determine how – either by machining the underside with our reverse boring system through the bolt circles, or by milling the entire diameter. Sometimes it is best to cut the bore circle directly with our round milling machine.

We can also cut all types of grooves in the flange surfaces, as well as chamfers to reduce the notch effect or as preparation for a weld seam.

When it comes to measuring the flange areas during round milling work, we use laser measuring technology or dial gauges. Any slopes to be produced are checked with electronic machine spirit levels.

Our measuring technology gives us the capacity to mill flange surfaces at right angles to existing bore systems. This is necessary e.g. when machining ship rudder systems. It’s your choice whether you want us to machine the boreholes, or simply use them as reference points for our milling technology. We are also happy to machine flanges in combination with any drilling work you require.
This technology is ideal, especially for support surfaces for ball-pivot connections, bearing surfaces for gear wheels, sealing surfaces, Voith-Schneider propellers, ship rudder systems or wind energy turbine masts.

Apart from standard solutions for mobile milling work, we also develop customised solutions. This is how we carried out radial milling of a boiler flange where the forward movement was achieved by turning the boiler with the customer’s existing rotating device. We not only machined the flange, but also milled around the circumference of the boiler as preparation for a welded seam. Ideal for this job were our special radii cutters that reduce notch effects.
